Case Organization & Review

Unsolved cases are often chaotic, unorganized, put away, and forgotten. Many cases remain in paper format. BFRI Services works with the law enforcement agency to digitize complete files and organize them to the specific needs of the department. This includes renaming all files in an easy-to-read naming convention and compiling them into sections in a digitized case file. Using a proprietary database developed by BFRIS founder, the BFRIS analyst then enters all of the existing data in digital format into a user-friendly format to help view existing evidence and find it quickly. Additionally, this tool assists in finding connective links that may not have been previously discovered, and the nexus points that are crucial to moving a case forward. BFRIS is proud to be factual and unbiased, and provide non-judgmental reviews of investigations that did not reach a conclusion previously.

Case Analysis

BFRIS conducts and initial review and overview, using a list of solvability factors and prioritization scale to determine the likelihood of being able to close a case successfully, and with or without the possibility of a conviction. Once all available case files, paper evidence, and photographs have been digitized, the BFRIS analyst will then conduct a full case review while organizing case files. The BFRIS analyst will use knowledge and training from an extensive background in forensic psychology to help identify leads that were never followed-up on, create a comprehensive list of suspects and persons of interest, a list of all individuals mentioned in the case, any additional investigative pathways that could be conducted, and identify relationships between those mentioned in the initial investigation and the victim. Using victimology techniques, a victim behavior profile will be created to help in identifying any kind of behavior patterns of the victim prior to death that can often be very telling about the crime itself. The analyst also conducts research about any and all persons mentioned and will include links to any information found. A review of the physical evidence will also show if any evidence could be retested with new and improved science, to include reviewing DNA for appropriateness to submit for genealogical DNA testing. The analyst can assist with the application and process for this type of DNA submission, as the analyst has done these submissions in past cases. At the conclusion of the review, the analyst then creates a presentation of findings, and writes a summary of findings that is submitted to the agency. At that time, the analyst can then further support the agency throughout the investigation as needed and requested.
